I believe poetry is the form we use when we cannot convey our truth in more normative ways. Poetry --like music, like art --is felt. But the beautiful part about poetry is the literal attempt to put those feelings into words. This makes it both excruciating and exhilarating.

Some poems can be written in seconds. Brilliant things, these poems. Others take weeks, months, years... also brilliant things, because they're wrapped in sweat.
My favorite poems are the ones written in a few days, when optimism is still high and the words sneak in quietly.
